RE: Working in the Canadian oil sands: 6 figures in 6 months!
Hey guys

I've read through most of this thread before but kind of left the idea of working in the oilfields at the back of my mind.

I'm 20 years old back at my parents house, working 60+ hours a week at a farm making shit money. No idea yet what the fuck I want to do in life.

I saw that oil was floating around $60 per barrel, which I read was a good price for the job market. Is this true? If Texas has some good opportunity right now I might just leave Massachusetts this weekend. Getting real tired of busting my ass for $13/hr

Not entirely sure what job I would go into, but I have realistic expectations about money and how much time i'll be working

If anyone who is working or has worked in the oil industry/Texas fields etc could just give me a short reply about the status of the job market this summer it would be really appreciated

Don’t think about the price of oil. Whatever it is, you’ll end up making more than what you’d make at home even if it lasts a few months.

Just make the move. Look up jobs in Ohio or PA. You don’t have to travel all the way to Texas.

I wrote the other day about the current situation in Midland-Odessa, Tx: https://www.rooshvforum.com/thread-73684.html

Quote:The work must be good, because I see more Mexico license plates than I’ve ever seen in my life before. I have seen the paychecks before, upwards of 100k for truck drivers. Many do their time, saving money, and get out. Restaurants struggle to find workers and people in fast food can do 15-20 dollars an hour, and that goes for waiters as well. Restaurants are forced to keep raising rates because there just are not enough people to do the jobs out here. Probation officers making 60k because there are so many felons out here for work.

Rent is now $1400, which is up 15 percent on the year. Even Houston, Austin and Dallas manage lower average rents. A trip to the local HEB and you will see a bunch of men stocking up on beer and steaks. And if you stop by a convenience store on an afternoon, you will see tons of men stalking up on beer and Marlboro reds.

Jobs everywhere here. Inside/ Outside sales, service industry at hotels, bars, restaurants, rig workers, drivers, probation officers, customer support, and more. Bad service out here because more workers are needed.

Does anyone know the entry-level of laborers in the oil fields? I hear ND is the highest.

I'm considering doing to stack for some real estate

Just got handed my lay off notice cuck boizzzzz! It’s been a fun ride!

They’re closing the entire shop. I can either get a severance package + unemployment or transfer to Texas.

I still have a job for a couple of weeks, plan on working 50 days straights non stop. Stack cash and then travel for a month or two. Or I might transfer...

They have temporary work but it doesn’t start until January or February. So who the fuck knows what I’ll actually do. Been wanting to return to Europe or go hiking across the Patagonia during summer. I can always come back since I made contacts and have a good reputation or say fuck it and get a cubicle job again.

Just wanted to say thanks to Scotian and all the contributors on this thread. Didn’t even know what the oilfield was a decade ago. Made a lot of great memories and work ethic.

Any news due to the recent oil drop? I've been applying for pumper jobs lately, but I'm wondering if I have a shot due to the current market

Only news I have is I've lost 3 Oil field tenants within the last two months. Waiting for more to kick in the bucket.
