By the way, and it should go to the "Gold and Silver" and "long-term effects of Quarantine" threads, but, about gold : it is already happening. People's money is leaving banks and migrating to gold.

I mean, there's a pause with respect to official exchange rates (for the technical de-investing reasons explained here by Tail Gunner), but... On the peer-to-peer market, suddenly there are no gold coins left to buy, all the gold coins have been bought in a hurry just before the quarantines.

Not so sure. In a few weeks in America we're going to be able to test out the limits of money. Everyone is going to have these corona stimulus checks in their hands to the tune of about $3000 per family. Is that magically going to make more toilet paper and rice appear? Nope.

I predict you're going to see some high caliber freakouts when people who are 'tax refund rich' can't buy what they want, despite having the money to pay for it.

RE: Quarantine thread
This whole state lockdown thing here in Wisconsin doesn't seem to be working. I decided to go to the outdoor public gun range today as outdoor recreation is still allowed and its usually very quiet.

Traffic in town was just as busy at it is during normal season, the only noticeable thing was the closed restaurants.

I left the gun range early, when a minivan packed with 7 asian americans showed up, one with a flu mask, and they all huddled into a lane together to fire two pistols shared between them. The only way they could have been more infectious was if they were all sharing one bottle of gatorade.

RE: Quarantine thread
Gun ranges and gun stores are considered essential services in some red states. Glad to see Wisconsin is still on that list.
Private ranges during the week are the best bet, if you can make it to one - especially if the weather is just a bit cold to keep away the fair weather shooters.

Private ranges got closed under 'places of amusement'. I usually go to a private outdoor one, its shut down as a result.

I haven't seen gun stores open, but there are many hardware stores that carry guns and ammo and they are open under the hardware store exemption.

I think the grocery stores are catching up on TP and rice by now. We're getting into the "you can't return TP and rice" stage at this point. Grocery stores be fully stocked soon, and will stay that way. They are essential services, and with 90% of the population not sick, there will be enough people to be able to go to work and make, distribute, and stock the grocery stores and other like retail categories.

Likewise, I don't see any risk of the water, power, or other utilities being cut off, or gas stations and auto repair places being closed, or any other services people count on for day to day modern life. Medical is the only real problem area I see, and access to restaurants, bars, and other crowd oriented activities.

I'm the tower of power, too sweet to be sour. I'm funky like a monkey. Sky's the limit and space is the place!

God demands of Man responsibility. God demands of Woman vulnerability. These are their curse and blessing alike. Libertianism is to Man as Feminism is to Woman.

Nyc is not on quarantine . Fewer cars in the road for sure. The subways are less crowded and restaurants are take out only but still open for the most part. I talk to sone of my friends that either own or work such storefronts ave they say business is way down and they have slashed hours/laid off workers because not as many people are coming in.

I went back again this morning...a group of 4 grey hairs huddled around a shooting bench for an hour. I was at the far back end of the range that takes a while to walk to so no one came near.

^I'm seeing similar things. In fact it's the families of the old people who will wind up killing them. "Oh, I couldn't live with myself if I can't hug my grandchildren" the boomers will say. They may just get their wish.
