Very soon we will be hearing "We have to choose who to let live" stories for the U.S. like we did for Italy. Many hospitals are at capacity.

A 26 year old doctor in Pakistan died from CV. He gave his life for the people in his region.

It didn't say anything about a preexisting condition.

Our fear of death is so great that we fatally wound ourselves when trying to run from it.

Little known secret is that most ICU are frequently at or near capacity almost any time of the year. We have a very large amount of old/unhealthy people in this country and no matter your age or physical condition, we fight well past the end for most our patients.

Hospitals have had time to prepare. Does that mean they will be completely ready for this? I doubt it. But every hospital has a extra vents, extra iso rooms and even OR rooms and Post Anesthesia Units that have the staff and equipment to handle ICU overflow. Will it be enough? I dont know.

If the worst does come, I can see states ``padding'' their early numbers to get as much FEMA supplies and extra vents as they can get their hands on. Better to get hit quick and have the equipment, then wait 2 weeks and there be nothing extra to send you.

RE: The Coronavirus Pandemic thread III
Well a girl I am just starting to get to know and like a lot already has a client that just got a 103 degree fever and is being tested for the virus. The girl in question spent 3 hours with her last Wednesday and is quarantining herself for a few weeks.

First time I've known someone directly that they themselves or someone they know may be end up being physically affected by the virus. Time will tell.

A few months ago, I read that the ICU capacity in the U.S. runs at about 90% -- and operates near full capacity at the height of flu season. Canada is even worse, even for a mere flu pandemic:

Quote:Estimates of capacity required in a severe pandemic vary widely. Using the “Flu Surge” model [26] and assuming 35% attack rate over 6 weeks, in Canada’s most populous province, Ontario, it is predicted that influenza patient admissions would peak at 1823 per day, which is 72% of all hospital capacity just for influenza patients alone. Demand for ICU resources would peak at 171% of current ICU bed capacity, and ventilator use would peak at 118% capacity. These numbers would only add to the region’s current day-to-day ICU utilization rates, which are approximately 90% capacity [27]. In Canada, this would definitely overwhelm current ICU resources.

Quote:Even in most well-developed countries, ICU beds are often close to capacity, and it is likely that in a severe influenza pandemic many patients who require a ventilator may not have access to one. Severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (SARS) gave a small-scale example of this. SARS resulted in 8096 cases globally, with only 251 in Canada [32]. Despite this, resources were critically stretched.

https://ccforum.biomedcentral.com/articl...019-2616-1

This paper, titled "Preparing intensive care for the next pandemic influenza" and published in October of last year, was quite prescient:

Quote:Conservative models of a large-scale influenza pandemic predict more than 170% utilization of ICU-level resources. When faced with pandemic influenza, ICUs must have a strategy for resource allocation as strain increases on the system.

Quote:The US Department of Homeland Security “views pandemic influenza as both the most likely and the most lethal of all [infectious] threats facing the United States,” [56] a concern shared by many health jurisdictions [57]. Interpandemic periods average 40 years, but we are at an ever-increasing risk for serious pandemics [58]. As humans continue to live in more crowded conditions, travel and migrate more extensively, and continue to farm livestock in proximity to more densely populated areas, the risk for genetic reassortment of influenza A viruses is perhaps higher than ever before.

The deniers in this thread consistently ignore the fact that anyone, regardless of age or prior perfect health, involved in a serious injury, accident, or health emergency would likely die during an unrestrained pandemic because of the lack of ICU beds or respirators.

The daily death growth rate slowed yesterday. Let’s hope that’s a new trend. Only one data point though.

Huge difference between 38% daily growth, versus 24%.

The three day rolling average daily death growth rate is 33%. You take that out 30 days, and you have 1.4 million deaths. Let’s keep an eye on that and hope it decelerates.

Update

COVID-19 US deaths (Worldometer):

3/19 207, +38% from prior day
3/20 256, +24% from prior day
3/21 302, +18% from prior day

3 day rolling average daily growth rate: 27%. At that rate, the number of deaths doubles every three days.

Today’s numbers are in on Worldometer. Not a good day.

COVID-19 US deaths (Worldometer):

3/20 256, +24% from prior day
3/21 302, +18% from prior day
3/22 419, +39% from prior day

3 day rolling average daily growth rate: 27%. At that rate, the number of deaths doubles every three days.

COVID-19 US deaths (Worldometer):

3/21 302, +18% from prior day
3/22 413, +37% from prior day
3/23 553, +34% from prior day

3 day rolling average daily growth rate: 30%. At that rate, the number of deaths more than doubles every three days. If this growth rate were to continue, we’d reach one million COVID-19 deaths in the next 29 days.

Not a good day.

COVID-19 US deaths (Worldometer):

3/22 413, +37% from prior day
3/23 553, +34% from prior day
3/24 778, +41% from prior day

3 day rolling average daily growth rate: 37%. At that rate, the number of deaths doubles in less than three days. If this growth rate were to continue, we’d reach over one million COVID-19 deaths in the next 23 days.

I’m going to start tracking the Johns Hopkins USA deaths.

RE: The Coronavirus Pandemic thread III
Pardon me if this has been posted already:

My savant friend analyzed some data and read a whole bunch of the reports and told me that the deaths generally peak 22 days after the 25th death.

That means the USA will peak around Mar 31. Canada just had the 25th death today, so for us it should be around April 15.

With that, self imposed isolation, and some hope that chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine may help treat it, perhaps the worst will be over by mid April.

That may be overly positive, but if we are going to weigh the most negative possibilities then it helps to also look at the positive ones, too.

It seems to me like globohomo / leftists wants hydroxychloroquine to fail and this pandemic to continue...

I'm wondering if its because they want Trump to lose to re-election and would prefer this pandemic wrecks the economy entirely - I'm seeing leftist media and other usual suspects try and cast doubts on it potential effectiveness.

RE: The Coronavirus Pandemic thread III
Greta Thurnberg has de facto admitted to having probably contaminated a ton of people while she was criss-crossing Central Europe. Not only does she have a scandalous, huge Carbon Print like she's Prince Harry's mongoloid little sis, but she's also a major vector of corona viruses. Nice.

https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/m...oronavirus

Why isn't the police detaining her, confining her? I wouldn't be surprised to learn someday that she's patient 0 for a bunch of countries.

Meanwhile the pandemia is taking hold in Africa, Kinshasa is now on lock down, many cases pop up in Cameroun and Ivory Coast... If Kinshasa gets a serious coronavirus spread, it'll be apocalyptic, think Aids meets Ebola meets biological weaponry meets crazy warlords meets ten million dead.

Fittingly (and as I predicted here a month ago), it's Africa's community (army?) of migrants that's bringing the virus onto the dark continent, from Europe. Some cosmical justice might be at play here, unless it's just Honk World blinking at us.

Edit: from what I read below, Greta has like, infected the Somalians she's been visiting day after day in Sweden? I'm starting to believe God's hand might be somewhere in all this. Well, matter of fact, God's hand is in everything, so... I'd be curious to see the list of victims, in any case. And their Ace2 receptor levels...

Also, you'll note that old Hillary is like the only celebrity not coronavirused yet. I'd say it's proof she's indeed a Reptilian, and therefore immune. But fret not, God will get her some other way.

ACE2 is also expressed in many different tissues, the variation among different ethnic groups is largely unknown. Most online have focused on ACE2 receptors in the lungs (method of entry), and thus on it's expression among East Asians. Since most of this was in Jan/Feb it might have just been a case of working on population bias as infections/mortality was 99% East Asian (Han Chinese) (+looking at past SARS03 studies) at the time.
Different ACE2 in other organs also explains the amount of renal failure and acute myocardial injury being reported (like by doubting thomas a few pages back)

IIRC the same studies/posts would show/claim higher ACE2 receptor in the lungs for East Asians and thus higher risk for the group when compared to European Whites and African Blacks, but as time goes on the data (infected/critical/fatality) isn't linking to this hypothesis.

How is that even possible? I thought that nuclear-powered aircraft carriers spend most of their time at sea similar to submarines, with zero contact with land for months at a time?

There's always some officer coming in from outside by the chopper. Maybe that's because this virus was there months before and only now they are finding out. It's an interesting hypothesis.

A friend of mine doctor in Alsace says in the last three weeks things started getting worse and now are in the verge of collapse.

In south Europe doctors infected with covid must keep working as long as they don’t show strong symptoms.

A dentist and his wife in my far circle tested positive covid are now in coma. First case where we know the people. This is not an hoax.

My mother in law went to google today at 04:00 and and she’s now an encyclopedia of covid. More and less. She said 80% would die. I told her 80% would probably get infected not die.

My wife studied dentist school until 3rd year and she said they learned that vit c doesn’t treat cold but can prevent it. Btw the dirtiest place in a bathroom is the button where you push to flush the toilet.
