Took a job interview, relocation required, what next?
About a month ago I quit my job in customer-facing management.

Applied to a lot of places, and finally got an interview, in fact, they were the ones that advised me to apply for a management trainee position (larger company).

Anyway, yesterday I went in for the interview. It ended up being a 1 1/2hrs interview. Not typical. IMO it went well. Their management training program sounds great; 12 weeks of training. I would have to relocate to my choice of location, which includes: All of midwest, Kansas, Nebraska, Dakotas, Wyoming, or WV.

First of all, they lowballed me, saying they want to pay 12.5/hr, which won't work because I need to make at least 14.5/hr which I made at my last job.

Second of all, if I have to move, which I do, I need them to sweeten the deal?

Bottom line I need to get a higher number, possibly moving expenses, and find a good location in the midwest (and above mentioned places).

Sounds like Menard's or Enterprise. I've had friends at both. If your offer is anything like these I'd advise against it. Retail managers are overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated. They cycle through people like crazy.

Most importantly, do you want to move? If so, I'd start applying for jobs in the city you want to move to. Otherwise, keep looking for jobs in your town. $12.50 an hour shouldn't even get you out of bed.

You went through an hour and a half interview for 12.50? Does it come with commissions and/or bonuses? I don't get why you're jumping through hoops for such low pay.

It is Menard's. Tried to tell me I'd be making 48-52k after training is done but the numbers don't add up, and overall feel like I can't take any paycut. Yeah there are bonuses.

Do I want to move, yeah I wouldn't mind.

Move to Seattle. Minimum wage there starts at $15/hr.

Also, never move for a job whose wage is described in dollars per hour.

Seattle has high cost of living.

Yeah, don't work for Menard's. One of my best buddies did that training and was an assistant manager for 2 years. He worked like 70 hours a week and only made about $50K. That's less than 14 bucks an hour.

I was attempting to point out that OP is trying to move to a city for a wage below minimum of another US city. I don't believe I did a good job getting my point across.

Spoken like a guy who has worked in an office his whole life.
