I just visited the local Walmart. Plenty of everything. I did not notice any empty shelves. In fact, immediately upon entering the store, there was a huge back-to-back display of hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol. I did a quick count: about fifty cases of hydrogen peroxide (12 each) and over 30 cases of rubbing alcohol (also 12 each). I did see a guy buying five bottles of hydrogen peroxide.

Good for Walmart. With such displays, they boost their sales while also making people aware of the situation, so that customers can buy product while it is still available. Capitalism in action. There was plenty of toilet tissue, soap, and water.

I bought two-to-three times as much as I would normally buy of non-perishable items that I will eventually use anyhow. I just have a few immune-boosting items to buy elsewhere and I am good to go.

I do agree: now is the time to stock up, while you can still easily do so.

I can't say the same for Stephen King, but it may not be good to accuse people of this without specific evidence, which by it's nature would be hard to produce.

I read a 1 or 2 of his books when I was a lot younger and had no clue. Dozens of his books are school libraries across the USA. His targent audience is teens and pre-teens. Novel after novel of teens killing people in graphic detail. I remember in one of them an 8 year old little girl gets her head crushed by a car.
Anyone making their living by pushing endless murder and horror imagery as entertainment into peoples heads (especially children) is no catholic, no matter how many times he steps into a church. He is corrputing kids who read his stuff and making money off of it as well. That's a straight ticket to hell.

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
Quote:Last week, only a few US labs could test for the coronavirus. Clearly, we were massively unprepared, but that is changing fast. As you read this, already 93 labs should have testing facilities. A bedside diagnostic is coming, too, as 70 companies are working on it. The FDA is changing its procedures to allow confirmation at labs other than at the CDC’s main headquarters. This will ease concern by quickly separating actual COVID-19 cases from common colds and flu.

I expect the number of labs which can administer tests to increase dramatically over the next few weeks. New testing kits will come online. I can imagine hospital administrators and staff are beginning to think about how they would handle an outbreak in their city.

Shortages are going to be bad. Not necessarily to the point where you cant find something to eat, but surely some items will be unavailable soon. One interview with an official at CDC or some shit said the US couldn't get any anti-viral drugs from the UK or Australia, our strongest allies, during SARS. He went on to say 'theres no such thing as allies during a pandemic'. If your country ain't making it or stockpiling it or wealthy enough to procure it through money or might, good luck.

If you are so inclined you can make your own isopropyl alcohol based sanitizer. They sell 99% IPA on ebay and there's guides on the internet (of varying quality).

Quote:...mix it with water. The water opens up the cell wall on the microorganisms so that the alcohol can get in...

To make a 75% solution, mix 3 parts 99% IPA with 1 part distilled water.

Quote:...viruses are much more resistant to disinfectants than bacteria. Luckily...coronavirus is an envelope virus, meaning it has a coating around it which the alcohol can attack, thereby eliminating the threat. (Norovirus and rhinovirus, by contrast, do not).

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
You only need hand sanitiser if you dont have a sink and some soap nearby.
Soap and water is always better.
Long term use of hand sanitiser will ruin your skin.

I once dated a girl who worked in a kindergarden and used hand alcohol based sanitiser several times a day for years. She had the roughest and most broken skin ever on her hands. Holding hands with her felt like holding hands with a female construction worker.

Also, use a good quality natural soap that's gentle on your hands for the reason Caduceus stated above, washing several times a day with a harsh soap will dry out and irritate your hands.

The Pope tests positive for Coronavirus.

Vatican confirms Pope Francis and two aides test positive for Coronavirus

Quote:The Vatican has confirmed in a statement that Pope Francis and two of his aides have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.

The three new cases add up to the over 400 cases confirmed in Italy under a week.

Pope Francis missed a planned Mass with clergy in Rome yesterday after showing Coronavirus-like symptoms.

The Vatican had earlier said the pontiff, 83, had a slight indisposition and could proceed with the rest of his planned work today.

The pope and his aides have been quarantined and receiving medical attention near Santa Marta, the Vatican hotel where he lives.

The pope was seen coughing and blowing his nose during the Asha Wednesday Mass.

Yesterday, he told well-wishers: ‘I wish, again, to express my closeness to those who are ill with coronavirus and to health-care workers who are caring for them’

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
The first Coronavirus death in the US has been announced by the Washington State Health officials.

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/f...-new-cases

Quote:Update (1250ET): Minutes after President Trump announced his 130pmET press conference to discuss the latest coronavirus developments, Washington State health officials have reported the first death from the coronavirus in the US.

No details yet, but it's probably reasonable to suspect that the death is the state's latest case (remember, it was also home to the first confirmed case in the US, a case that reportedly recovered) of 'unknown origin' which it announced last night.

Of course, it's also possible that this could have been a post-mortem confirmation...meaning it would also constitute a new case.

Washington State health officials are also planning to hold a press conference shortly.

So much for routing all information through the VP's office...

This follows several untraceable cases. Breakouts are occurring.

Quote:The unceasing 24/7 flood of coronavirus news yielded some disturbing developments last night as public health officials in Oregon and Washington State confirmed the third and fourth coronaviruses of "unknown origin" in the US.

To President Trump's chagrin, public health officials on the west coast warned that the cases are evidence that community outbreaks have already begun in Northern Cali, Oregon and Washington State. So if you were planning on traveling to the Pacific Northwest any time soon...you might want to reconsider.

Doesn't seem like a reputable source.

Agreed, further searches get nothing so may be a scurrilous story. Sorry.
